How Much I Like My Job
Jermayne has been employed with Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina since March 2000. Referred for work services from the Charleston County Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN), Jermayne was placed as a processor in the work enclave at the Rivers Avenue Goodwill retail store with five other individuals with disabilities. Jermayne's duties were to sort through and hang articles of clothing. Jermayne was also tasked with the responsibility of making appropriate judgment of what items were appropriate for the sales floor.
Jermayne initially started out as socially withdrawn from her peers and the job coach. However, she gained independence and became more verbal as her employment continued. Jermayne would report to work as scheduled and kept her job coach notified of days she would be absent from work.
In February 2004, Jermayne, along with her peers were transferred to Goodwill"s administrative office to pursue work as a Defacer. Jermayne's new duties now included removing ticketed merchandise, pricing items, and building pallets with merchandise to be shipped to the retail stores. Jermayne completes these tasks with assistance from the job coach.
Jermayne transitioned well into her new position and has grasped complete knowledge of her job. Jermayne is often observed talking to the job coach and other staff about how much "I like my job”. Jermayne is also observed taking the initiative to complete other work tasks while being challenged in other areas by the job coach. She is personable, seeks positive approval from the job coach and responds well to praises. Jermayne also has a positive support from her family.
Jermayne is presently tasked with memorization and mathematics computation (with use of a calculator) by the job coach. She is doing well in both areas
Jermayne is respectfully an asset to the Goodwill organization and the work enclave. Jermayne quotes “I like working at Goodwill and don’t want to work anywhere else”.
