PC Recycling Center
In an effort to reduce the number of computers discarded in landfills and provide our program participants with technical work experience, Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina has implemented a PC Recycling and Repair Program that refurbishes donated computers for resale.  This recycling process eliminates e-waste and provides employment training opportunities for people with disabilities and other disadvantages to employment.

What items are accepted?
Goodwill accepts the following IT donations:

  • Desktop Computers (PC & Mac)
  • Laptop Computers
  • Monitors
  • Keyboards & Mouse
  • Speakers
  • Scanners
  • Technical Manuals
  • Software (Applications, Games, Operating Systems)
  • Hard Disk Drives
  • Floppy Disk Drives
  • CD-Rom· Cables
  • Power Adapters
  • Printers (Ink Jet & Laser)
  • Ink & Toner Cartridges
  • Gaming Systems and Accessories

Where can I donate?
Computer and computer component donations are accepted at Goodwill's PC Recycle Center located inside the Outlet Store or any Goodwill Donation Center.

What happens to donated computers?
Donated computers are staged, tested and sorted into three categories:

  1. Refurbish into saleable units
  2. Salvage parts
  3. Recycled components

Students participating in computer training programs learn how to identify and test computer components. 

Through this program, Goodwill. . .

  • trains and hires individuals with disabilities
  • helps sustain the community by providing recycling services for residents and businesses
  • provides workplace training in a unique environment for disabled, homeless and local residents

This program significantly reduces e-waste from our waste stream turning it into positive cash flow, employment opportunities and preserving the environment.

Facts and Figures

  • Goodwill processed over 8,000 pieces of computer equipment in 2004.
  • Donated computer equipment provided job training for individuals in the tri-county area.
  • Goodwill’s PC Recycling Center provides hands-on computer repair work experience to individuals participating in job training programs.
  • A refurbished computer system (CPU, monitor, mouse and keyboard) can be purchased for as low as $75.00 at Goodwill’s PC Recycle Center.
